Carnival's 2018 New Ship To Be Named Carnival Horizon

7/29/2016

PictureView From The Front Of A Carnival Ship - Not The Carnival Horizon
Carnival Cruise Line's 2nd Vista Class ship will be named the Carnival Horizon. The Carnival Horizon is scheduled to enter service in March 2018.
As a part of the Vista Class, the Carnival Horizon will have many of the same amenities and features the Carnival Vista recieved. This includes things such as Seuss At Sea, Family Harbor staterooms, Alchemy Bar, Skyride, and IMAX Theatre. These features were specifically mentioned in the press release, but it is safe to assume many of the Carnival Vista's other popular features will be introduced to the Carnival Horizon too.  Carnival's press release noted the Carnival Horizon will have some features and amenities that are newly debuted on the ship. At this time, we do not have names or renderings of those new features that will be first debuted on the Carnival Horizon.
The Carnival Horizon will be approximately 133,500 tons and hold approximately 3,934 passengers. The ship is being built by Fincanteri at a shipyard in Marghera, Italy. At this time, no itinerary information has been announced to the public. I look forward to finding out more about the Carnival Horizon's features as well as itinerary information.

Carnival Legend To Sail Alaska and Hawaii Cruises Again In 2018

7/19/2016

Carnival Cruise Ship In Tracy Arm Fjord Alaska
The Carnival Legend will be sailing to Alaska and Hawaii again in 2018. In a morning press release on July 19, 2016, Carnival Cruise Line announced the Carnival Legend's 2018 Alaska season will contain 16 round trip 7 night cruises from Seattle, Washington. Each of these 7 night round trip cruises from Seattle will sail to Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway, Ketchikan, Juneau, and Victoria, B.C. The first roundtrip voyage of the 2018 season will depart on May 8, 2018, and the last round trip voyage of the season will depart on August 21, 2018. These consecutive round trip voyages depart on Tuesdays. While this may sound like an odd departure day, consider taking time to fly into Seattle a few days early during the weekend and see the sights of Seattle!
Typically, Carnival ships also do special Alaska itineraries at the beginning and end of each Alaska season. For 2018, Carnival has announced the Carnival Legend will sail a 7 night cruise from Vancouver on May 1, 2018. This cruise will end in Seattle, Washington and is not round trip. To end the Alaska cruise season, the Carnival Legend will sail an 8 night Alaska cruise that is round trip from Seattle. This cruise will begin on August 28, 2018. On September 5, 2018, the Carnival Legend will depart Seattle on an 8 night Alaska cruise that will end in Vancouver, Canada. Following this cruise, the 2018 Carnival Alaska season is over.
Besides announcing Alaska cruises, Carnival announced the Carnival Legend will sail two Hawaii 11 night cruises. Each of these cruises have different itineraries and departure homeports. One of these 11 night Hawaii cruises will depart Honolulu, Hawaii and end in Vancouver, Canada. The other of these cruises will depart Vancouver and end in Honolulu.
The Carnival Legend seasonally departs from Sydney, Australia. For the past few years, the ship has relocated back to the United States to sail Alaska and Hawaii. While 2018 has its Alaska and Hawaii cruises announced, there is still the 2017 Alaska cruise season for cruisers to enjoy. The Carnival Legend is Carnival's first ship to have its itineraries announced for the Summer 2018 cruise season.

Royal Caribbean Adding 4 and 5 Day Cruises From Galveston

7/5/2016

Liberty of the Seas GalvestonLiberty of the Seas Docked In Galveston
Royal Caribbean is planning some 4 and 5 night cruises that will depart from Galveston, Texas.  In the late Fall of 2017, Royal Caribbean's booking engine shows the Vision of the Seas will be sailing 4 and 5 night cruises from Galveston in addition to the Liberty of the Seas' 7 night cruises. So far, the booking engine only shows the Vision of the Seas from Galveston in November 2017 and December 2017. The ship has no itineraries available in the booking engine past December 2017, at the time this article was written. It looks like the 4 night cruises will sail to Cozumel, Mexico. The 5 night cruises will alternate between Cozumel & Costa Maya Or Cozumel & Progreso. During these two months, it appears Royal Caribbean will have the Vision of the Seas doing 4 & 5 night Galveston cruises and the Liberty of the Seas doing 7 night cruises.
The Vision of the Seas began sailing in 1998 and can hold 2,050 guests double occupancy. The ship is 915 feet long and has a cruising speed of 22 knots. In addition, the ship has a total of 1,024 staterooms onboard.
The ship's primary competition will be with the Carnival Liberty, which does 4 & 5 day cruises from Galveston. Galveston is year round home to the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Liberty, and the Liberty of the Seas. The Disney Wonder sails from Galveston seasonally. It is still unclear if the Vision of the Seas will become year round or will remain seasonal from Galveston.

I was unable to find a press release from Royal Caribbean. All information in this article is subject to change and was gathered from Royal Caribbean's booking engine.
