Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas Had A Fire Earlier Today

7/22/2015

PictureFreedom of the Seas Docked In Cozumel (2012)
Fire is always a dangerous thing, whether it occurs in a building on land or on a ship at sea. Royal Caribbean's Public Relations' Twitter page (@RCLcorp) posted this morning that their ship, Freedom of the Seas, had a fire in a mechanical space onboard the ship. Their Twitter account also reported in the same post the fire was contained and all systems were functioning. While Royal Caribbean reported via Twitter that all guests were safe & had no injuries, one crew member had to be treated for first degree burns. The guests onboard were sent to muster stations as a precaution. The ship was on its way to Falmouth, Jamaica  and the guests got to enjoy the port of call once the ship was docked & clearance was given for the guests to get off. The ship is scheduled to dock in Grand Cayman, tomorrow (Thursday, July 23, 2015).
Thankfully, the crew of the Freedom of the Seas was able to contain and extinguish the fire onboard. It is a very good thing the ship's onboard systems are reported to be functioning because onboard systems can include things such as the a/c and toilets. At this time, there have been no reports of any essential systems being down. The Freedom of the Seas departed Port Canaveral on Sunday, July 19 and the ship is scheduled to end this cruise on Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Carnival Cruise Line Is On A Roll With CDC Health Inspections In 2015

7/14/2015

Carnival Ecstasy Carnival Ecstasy Preparing To Dock
The media typically has a field day with Carnival ships when something goes wrong, no matter how minor the issue may be. However, when a streak of positive things happen for Carnival Cruise Lines the media coverage is much lower. This year, 2015, has shown Carnival's commitment to following food safety & preparation guidelines as 6 of the company's cruise ships have recieved a perfect health inspection score of 100.
According to Carnival, ships that earn a 100, "must receive perfect marks on all 44 items that comprise the U.S.P.H's comprehensive Vessel Sanitation checklist". The inspectors view multiple areas on the ship to look for violations against health codes. 6 ships meeting this standard is an excellent accomplishment for Carnival and the crew onboard the high scoring ships deserve recognition too. The CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program website shows the following Carnival ships have all earned 100's on one of their health inspections so far this year:
-  Carnival Ecstasy  (Score From April 2015 Inspection)
-  Carnival Fascination  (Score From June 2015 Inspection)
-  Carnival Miracle  (Score From February 2015 Inspection)
-  Carnival Pride     (Score From February 2015 Inspection)
-  Carnival Sunshine  (Score From April 2015 Inspection)
-  Carnival Triumph   (Score From March 2015 Inspection)
Congratulations to Carnival Cruise Lines, the ships, and crew members that helped earn this top notch score. Next time you hear something negative about Carnival on the news, think of all the good things that happen that do not receive much attention.
