Carnival Cruise Line Is Expanding Operations From Long Beach, CA

10/27/2016

Funnel
Since 2003, Carnival Cruise Line has operated the Long Beach Cruise Terminal in California. This week, Carnival announced an agreement to expand the Long Beach Cruise Terminal. Under this agreement, the cruise terminal will be expanded from 66,000 square feet to 142,000 square feet.
The increased size of the cruise terminal will allow Carnival to use 100% of the Geodesic Dome, which is a part of the cruise terminal. By having an increased cruise terminal size, Carnival will be able to allow larger ships to use this terminal. Furthermore, Carnival will be able to have embarkation and debarkation occur at the same time, once the expansion of the cruise terminal is completed. Currently, embarking guests have to wait for debarking guests to be finished before the embarkation process can begin.
Another element of Carnival's plans is technology that allows the ship to plug in to the local electricity grid while docked in the homeport. Carnival's press release notes that this will help reduce emissions.
Construction on this cruise terminal is scheduled to be completed in late 2017. No specific end date is available at this time other than this information.
Currently, Long Beach is a homeport for the Carnival Miracle, Carnival Imagination, and Carnival Inspiration. The Carnival Miracle primarily sails 7 night cruises to the Mexican Rivera. The Carnival Imagination and Carnival Inspiration both sail 3 and 4 night cruises to Baja from Long Beach.
