Today Carnival Cruise Line announced major changes to their Galveston and New Orleans cruise ship deployments for 2019.
Galveston Cruise Ship Changes:
The Carnival Dream will reposition to Galveston to sail 4 & 5 night cruises starting in May 2019. Four night cruises from Galveston will depart on Thursdays and sail to Cozumel, Mexico. Five night cruises will alternate departure days (Saturdays & Mondays) and will sail to Cozumel & Progreso or Costa Maya (port of calls will vary by cruise). When the Carnival Dream repositions to Galveston it will join the Carnival Vista and Carnival Freedom. The Carnival Vista is joining Galveston's lineup in 2018, but the Carnival Freedom currently sails from Galveston. Based on Carnival's press release, the Carnival Dream will be a 22% passenger capacity increase compared to the Carnival Valor that currently sails 4 & 5 night cruises from Galveston.
New Orleans Cruise Ship Changes:
The Carnival Valor will reposition from Galveston to New Orleans starting in May 2019. From New Orleans, the Carnival Valor will sail 4 & 5 night cruises. Four night cruises from New Orleans will depart on Thursdays and sail to Cozumel, Mexico. Five night cruises will alternate departure days (Saturdays & Mondays) and will sail to Cozumel & Progreso. Currently, the Carnival Triumph sails 4 & 5 night cruises from New Orleans. The Carnival Valor will replace the Carnival Triumph, which has not had a new homeport announced yet. The Carnival Valor is larger than the Carnival Triumph and marks a 4 & 5 night cruise capacity increase for the Port of New Orleans.
The Carnival Glory will be re-positioning to New Orleans to replace the Carnival Dream. While the Carnival Glory is not as large as the Carnival Dream, it has several of Carnival's Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades. The Carnival Glory will sail 7 night cruises departing on Sundays from New Orleans. It is unclear if the Carnival Glory being from New Orleans is a short term or long term change.
