This part of my Carnival Breeze cruise review is the second part of the first sea day. To read the first part of my sea day review please click here.
The Carnival Breeze's Lanai was partially closed in the morning as balcony washing was taking place on Deck 6 and above on the port side of the ship. The crew used this time to also do a deep cleaning of the Lanai below and since water from the balcony cleaning would get on guests this was the perfect time to close the Lanai.

I looked my Marine Traffic app and saw two ships were approaching nearby. I had a feeling it was cruise ships so I went outside to look. The Carnival Vista and Voyager of the Seas were both approaching in the distance. Both ships were heading back to Galveston. I stayed outside and watched until the ships were distant into the horizon.
Platinum Casino FunPlay Gift:
Carnival's VIFP program allows Platinum & Diamond guests to receive $25 FunPlay in the casino. The $25 FunPlay can either be used for slots or tables. I went to the Casino Cashier station on Deck 5 to request the complimentary FunPlay to be loaded to my Sail & Sign card. The credit could be used in either the main casino on Deck 5 or the smoke free casino annex on Deck 4. I went to the Casino Annex on Deck 4 to play. Within a few minutes I lost so I stopped gambling.
Lunch in the Lido Marketplace:
Around 11:50am, I headed up to the Lido buffet for lunch. The buffet opened a couple of minutes early and I went to the Comfort Kitchen line to get some salad bar items & mashed potatoes. The line moved very quickly! I observed the buffet was crowded and the line for the pizzeria & deli were both very long.
Here are all of the lunch options available on the ship for this sea-day:

Here are all of the lunch options available on the ship for this sea-day:
- Seafood Shack - The Seafood Shack is located at the back of the lido buffet by the aft pool. This venue costs extra and was open from 11:00am until 5:00pm for lunch and was also open for dinner from 5:00pm until 10:00pm.
- Blue Iguana Cantina - 12:00pm - 2:30pm
- Bonsai Sushi - This dining option is located on Deck 5 and costs extra. Bonsai Sushi serves a variety of different sushi related dishes. For lunch, this venue was open from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse (BBQ) - This dining venue is located on the Lanai on Deck 5 and is complimentary. BBQ is served here. The Carnival Breeze's BBQ line was open from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Mongolian Wok - The Carnival Breeze's Mongolian Wok is located in the lido buffet near the front area of the interior space. This venue was open from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Pasta Bar - The pasta bar offers guests the ability to create a customized bowl of pasta. Essentially, guests fill out a paper form that gives options of what can be put in a pasta bowl. The form is turned into a hostess and a crew member makes the bowl of pasta. Caesar salads and garlic bread are also available. This venue was open from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Guy's Burger Joint - 12:00pm - 6:00pm
- The deli was open for lunch, but was also available for dinner (deli is open 11am - 11pm).

After lunch ended I did a bunch of walking around the Carnival Breeze.
The Showdown:
At 1:45pm in the Ovation Theater, "The Showdown with Amber" was taking place. This game was hosted by our cruise director, Amber, and Fun Squad member, Chrissy. Two teams competed against each other in multiple rounds. Round 1 consisted of trivia questions, Round 2 was a game where the team had to be the first to spell words with letters, and Round 3 involved each team trying to put a Fun Ship medal in between their legs and get it into a Red Solo Cup without being dropped. The game was funny to watch and the audience participation took the game to the next level. Win A Cruise Bingo was taking place in the Ovation Theater at 2:30pm after The Showdown was over. |
Weather Change:
In the late afternoon the ship started rocking quite a bit. The weather became cloudy outside and I think we went through a few thunderstorms. The ship's rocking was noticeable. In my stateroom the "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging on the wall was moving back & forth with the ship's motion.
While we were out for lunch & enjoying activities around the ship our stateroom steward came by the room to complete a daily cleaning. A towel animal was left on my bed and fresh towels were left in the bathroom.

Cruise Elegant Evening Dinner In The Sapphire Dining Room:
Tonight was our first and only cruise elegant evening on the Carnival Breeze. The dining room had a more strict dress code that was published on the Carnival Hub App. Your-Time Dining was scheduled to be open from 5:30pm until 9:00pm on this night of the cruise in the Sapphire Dining Room's deck 3 and 4 levels. At 5:20pm, the Your-Time Dining opened for check-in on the Carnival Hub App and I quickly checked in. I requested our same table as the night before when the hostesses came outside to make sure guests were able to check-in. We got the same table and our dining room team remembered our names. Tonight I had caesar salad and shrimp cocktail for appetizers, broiled striploin steak for main course, and a banana split from the kid's menu for dessert. Dinner was very good, but the rocking of the ship could be felt in the Sapphire Dining Room. |
Below are pictures of the menus for tonight's dinner:
Below are food pictures from this evening's dinner:
Dinner took around 50 minutes so by 6:30pm we were out of the Sapphire Dining Room. I went back to the room to change out of my formal night clothes. Since we had plenty of time before the Ovation Theater opened for 88 Keys, we decided to step outside to walk on the Lanai. While on Deck 5 we went through the Piano Bar 88 and Limelight Lounge. Piano Bar 88 was close to opening for the night and the Limelight Lounge was getting ready for another comedy club show.
88 Keys - Concern Version:
88 Keys was scheduled in the Ovation Theater at 7:30pm and 9:30pm (doors opened 30 minutes prior to each showing). Due to the rocking of the ship, the Playlist Productions show "88 Keys" was unable to happen as normal. The Playlist Productions cast instead sat on bar stools and sang the songs that would have been performed during the show. The show had to be this way due to safety reasons as the cast could get hurt dancing & singing on the normal sets with the ship rocking as badly as it was. Although the show did not happen normally, the cast did a great job still making the show fun and sang great! 88 Keys consisted of songs that revolve around a piano theme and included many Elton John, and Billy Joel favorites. |
After the show we walked outside to Deck 5. It was not raining, but it was very moist feeling outside. The Lanai decking was wet and a bit slippery in some sections. My old shoes did not have good traction walking and due to the wind, normal walking was almost impossible on the Lanai.
Due to Deck 5 being hard to walk on, I went up to the upper decks hoping to use the jogging track. Unfortunately, all of the stairwells to Deck 12 or above were blocked and closed. My guess is due to high wind as it was extremely windy outside. This was disappointing as I was hoping to be able to use the jogging track, but I understood the deck needed to be closed since the wind was so high and we were rocking.
Since I couldn't enjoy walking around the jogging track I went inside the Lido Marketplace to get some water. The front part of the buffet was quiet and shutdown. The drink stations were closed and the cups were removed. I went to the back half of the buffet and it was decently packed, but there were plenty of open tables.
The Lido Marketplace was serving dinner from 6pm until 9:30pm. Although I was stuffed from eating in the main dining room, I still took some pictures of the food that was available to guests in the Lido Marketplace. There was some overlap in food items, but there were some options that were not in the dining room.
After getting water I was tired and went back to the stateroom. The ship was very rocky and I was able to feel the ship's movement throughout the night. Our port of call stop in Cozumel was the next day so I made sure to go to sleep early to be up for an earlier breakfast.
