Morning Walk Around The Carnival Breeze:
Today was our first and only port of call day during the cruise. The ship was scheduled to dock in Cozumel at 9am and as a result breakfast was going to be served earlier. I woke up around 6:00am and by 6:20am was ready to take a walk around the Carnival Breeze. My walk started on Deck 10 by the main Lido pool. The had been rocky throughout the night, but was much better in the morning. However, the movement of the ship could still be felt and the water was a little choppy.

After being outside I went into the interior of Deck 11. Right above the Lido Marketplace on Deck 11 is the Carnival Breeze's Cucina Del Capitano. This venue is the Pasta Bar at lunch and serves complimentary custom pasta bowls. At night, the venue is Cucina Del Capitano and serves Italian dishes with a reservation fee. Below are pictures of Cucina Del Capitano:
From Deck 11 I walked down to Deck 5. I saw the Liquid Nightclub was open so I walked inside. This is the Carnival Breeze's Nightclub which is open to guests 18+ in the late evening and into the early morning hours. During the day this venue is used for the Art Gallery's shows.
From Deck 5 I walked down to Deck 4. I'll have some pictures of the Club 02 and Circle C youth program lounges that are located on Deck 4 in Day 3 Part 2's review.
Breakfast in the Lido Marketplace:
Since today was a port of call day the Lido Marketplace's scheduled breakfast time was a little earlier. French toast and bacon were not available on this day of the cruise, but would be available on our sea day. Pancakes were available in the place of french toast.
The continental breakfast buffet line was open from 6:00am until 10:30am. The Blue Iguana Cantina was open from 7:00am - 10:00am and the Lido Marketplace main buffet lines were open from 7:00am - 10:30am. The late risers buffet line was open from 10:30am until 12:00pm. For guests that did not want to eat in the buffet, the Blush Dining Room was open for Breakfast Open Seating from 7:30am until 9:00am.

After breakfast we walked outside to look at Cozumel. The Carnival Breeze was approaching very slowly. It was a bit windy outside and in the distance it was raining.
I wanted to watch our arrival at the front of Deck 9, but when I stepped outside it had just started raining. We had to step inside and wait a little bit for the rain to stop. By the time I was able to step outside we were almost docked at Puerta Maya Pier. Puerta Maya is the pier that Carnival ships typically dock at when visiting Cozumel. The Carnival Breeze was the only ship scheduled to be docked for the day.
Going Ashore To Cozumel:
Getting off the Carnival Breeze to go ashore to Cozumel was quick & easy. Since we had docked early, an announcement was made by our cruise director, Amber, that we were allowed to go ashore a little earlier than 9am. We walked down to Deck 0 using a crew only stairwell. This stairwell was very narrow. On Deck 0 crew members directed us to the gangway. The Carnival Breeze's security team was standing by the gangway to scan Sail & Sign cards. There were two lines going and each moved very quick. At the bottom of the gangway, the Carnival Breeze had photographers taking pictures of guests. I didn't get my picture taken, but one of the photographers asked me what type of camera I was using.

The pier at Puerta Maya has a long shop that must be walked through before guests can exit the pier. This shop has two aisles and along the walk through there are a variety of perfumes, jewelry, drinks, Cozumel items, and more that are for sale. On the other side of the long shop, an agricultural checkpoint is setup. The local authorities usually have a dog that sniffs for certain food products.
My first stop ashore was Puerta Maya's beach. The beach area at Puerta Maya has many chairs setup for people to lay outside and look at the water & ships. On days when I have been in Cozumel previously, this area can get crowded. However, today was relatively empty because of the weather.
Please note - this beach is not one for swimming at all or even getting in the water! Getting in the water is prohibited!

My plan for the day was to walk out of the Puerta Maya cruise complex. As I headed towards the exit, there were several taxis lined up. The drivers were trying to sell us taxi rides to all sorts of places in Cozumel.
After walking out of Puerta Maya, I was almost immediately hounded by shop owners trying to get me to come into their shop. I declined and walked to the 7-Eleven to get something to drink. I got a glass bottled Coca-Cola and then walked over to the Royal Village Shopping Center to enjoy. The Royal Village Shopping Center had shops just opening for the day when we walked through.
We left the Royal Village Shopping Center and headed across the street to the International Pier. The International Pier is primarily where Royal Caribbean ships dock. There were no ships in on this day so most shops in this shopping area were closed, but things like Margaritaville were open.
We walked by Margaritaville and I was able to get a few pictures of the Carnival Breeze. It looked like it was raining in the distance so we didn't stay around too long and started to head back to the Carnival Breeze.
The walk back to Puerta Maya was much easier than the walk out of Puerta Maya. The sidewalk was a bit uneven in spots so if you have trouble walking I recommend you use extra caution if you plan to walk along the sidewalk on either side of the road. When we got to the entrance of Puerta Maya we were required to show our Sail & Sign cards.
I love rum cakes and always try to stop at the Mayan Fiesta Rum Cake while in Cozumel. The store was giving away samples of Mexican Vanilla and Pina Colada Rum Cakes. The store was running a special where you could make a purchase and before paying at the checkout they had a basket of Easter eggs for picking. Each egg had a discount inside ranging from 10-50% off. This would be applied to your purchase as you were checking out. We only got 10% off, but it was still a nice promotion the store was running!
