Sea Sickness or Motion Sickness on a Carnival Cruise: Tips & Info

11/12/2023

PictureApproaching Cozumel During Choppy Seas
If you are worried about getting sea sick or motion sickness on your Carnival Cruise you are definitely not alone with this worry. One of the concerns I hear commonly from first time cruisers or potential cruisers is the fear of getting sea sick while on their cruise. This post will discuss sea sickness while on a Carnival Cruise vacation.

This post is not medical advice. I am not a medical expert and do not have any medical or health experience. Please consult with your doctor for options that are best for you.

Pre-Cruise Advice
If you are concerned about the potential of getting sea sick or motion sick on your upcoming Carnival Cruise, I recommend talking to your doctor before your cruise. There are over the counter and prescription medicines that can be taken. I'm not a medical expert nor is this page medical advice so I'm not going to recommend any options available, but I highly recommend you speak with your doctor or do your own research on options that will help with sea sickness or motion sickness.
Carnival's website indicates that you can pack sea sickness medication and treatments such as a motion sickness patch or wristband in your luggage. Just make sure if you do buy medicine for your cruise that you add to your packing list to make sure it is not forgotten when it comes time to pack!

Sea-Sickness Medicine Options Onboard
If you did not bring anything with you for motion sickness or seasickness, Carnival does sell motion sickness pills at Guest Services, via room service, or at the ship's medical center. There will be a fee for the medicine. Carnival does not sell motion sickness patches or wristbands onboard the ship. Guests who want to use this will need to bring their own.
For extreme cases of sea-sickness, Carnival has a motion sickness injection available at the ship's medical center (fee does apply). However, Carnival's website notes this option is only available for cases where medical treatment is necessary and is not a preventative measure.
Do events and activities still take place normally when the ship is rocking?

It depends on the activity and severity of the rocking of the ship. Carnival's Playlist Production shows will sometimes be modified to a bar-stool concert version when the ship is rocking too much and the safety of the performers is in question. Sometimes Carnival will close outside decks when the ship is rocking and/or if the wind is high.
I recommend reading this post (click here) for more information from Carnival on sea sickness or motion sickness on a Carnival Cruise vacation. This link will take you to Carnival's news website and away from RyG's Cruise Guide.
