MSC Cruises Looking To Come To Galveston & A Fourth Cruise Terminal Under Discussion

12/23/2022

Picture
The Port of Galveston and MSC Cruises have entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines parameters for a potential agreement that will allow MSC Cruises to operate a cruise terminal on Piers 16-18. This MOU will allow the Port of Galveston and MSC Cruises to negotiate a public-private partnership.
MSC Cruises does not currently sail from Galveston, but the cruise line is a large cruise brand around the world. According to the press release, MSC Cruises is the third largest cruise line in the world and fastest growing cruise brand. MSC Cruises is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Port of Galveston's Master Plan has included plans for a 4th cruise terminal to come in the 2030-2040 timeframe. However, with the news of the MOU with MSC it appears the timeline could be expedited forward. According to the Port of Galveston, acreage that is currently under lease for cargo operations will be available sooner than expected.

Has MSC Cruises announced which ship they would bring to Galveston if an agreement gets signed?
MSC Cruises has not released this type of information. If an agreement is signed between MSC Cruises and the Port of Galveston, I expected ship and itinerary information would be released at this time.

Where does MSC Cruises currently sail?

According to the press release, MSC Cruises sails in Europe, South America, Gulf Region, Southern Africa, and has a presence in North America, Caribbean, and Far East Markets.
