On my Carnival Miracle cruise there was free tour of the backstage area of the Phantom Theatre. This tour was put on by the cruise director and entertainment department. There were crew members stationed at various areas of the backstage to explain the function of the area. Here are some photos from backstage:

This tour was really neat and very enjoyable! If you want to see the backstage area or different behind the scenes areas of your Carnival cruise ship I recommend purchasing a ticket on the Behind the Fun Tour. The Behind the Fun Tour is a tour that typically includes touring crew only areas, backstage, galley, bridge, and engine room.
