Carnival Cruise Line announced the Carnival Jubilee will offer the fleet's first 5G coverage onboard through a partnership with Wireless Maritime Service (WMS). The Carnival Jubilee is Carnival's third XL class ship and will sail from Galveston starting in December 2023.
5G Capability On Carnival Jubilee
According to Carnival, the Carnival Jubilee will launch with 5G enabled, but the service won't be available until early 2024. Carnival noted that guests will be able to utilize the connectivity via wireless plans with their cellular provider. If you are traveling on the Carnival Jubilee or any other ship with 5G service offered, I recommend you gather official information regarding how the plan works & how the service works onboard to avoid any unexpected billings or charges that could come to your account.
Starlink & Internet Enhancements To Other Ships
Carnival also announced all 25 ships have completed the necessary infrastructure upgrades to have Starlink Satellite Service installed. Although each ship has the infrastructure upgrades to support Starlink, this does not mean all ships are currently using Starlink at this time as Carnival noted there are other service providers within the press release. Carnival also has partnerships for multi-provider functionality with other vendors.
5G Capabilities To Be Rolled Out To More Ships
Carnival Cruise Line is working to roll out the 5G coverage to other ships. At this time, there has not been a release of a rollout schedule or an announcement regarding which ships will have this capability added. Stay tuned for more information!
I'm not an expert on 5G or internet capabilities in any way so I highly encourage you reach out to Carnival with any questions you have regarding how this will work onboard. To write this article, I've pretty much relied on Carnival's press release with a link below. You may also want to consult with your wireless provider if you are going on a ship that has 5G capabilities regarding how it would work & how billing will work.
