Arrival:
Throughout the cruise we have had to set our clocks forward and backward depending on which port we would be visiting and its location. It is really important to pay attention to the directive given each evening for the next day so you won’t miss boarding the ship. If you are late getting back, you may have to find another way to get to your next port! The ship will only wait for a short period past sailing time. We arrived again around 7:00am with some clouds, but the sun was trying to peak through. It turned out to be another beautiful day. Shortly after we docked, another ship (the Carnival Glory) started docking right next to us. The gangways had to be closed again so everyone was delayed getting off the ship.

Cozumel:
An island and municipality in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of the Yucatan peninsula it was first settled by the Mayans long before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century. By 1570 the majority of the Mayan population was either massacred or killed by disease. According to Mayan legend, it was home to the gods and considered a sacred place. Over the years it has been home to pirates and buccaneers including Sir Henry Morgan and Jean Lafitte. Now it is a favorite place to visit by most of the cruise lines sailing in the Western Caribbean.

Excursions:
The Tulum Mayan ruins provide a full day of adventure and require a ferry ride to the mainland of Mexico. It is a very popular excursion. Other excursions to choose from are the beautiful beaches, the ecological/archeological theme park of X-Caret, Chankanaab National Park with a natural aquarium, the Cozumel museum and ruins of El Cedral, snorkeling and diving, boating adventures and a cultural experience including a folkloric show and Mexican cooking class. Or you can just go ashore and enjoy all the shops and eating places with the many cruisers from not only the Ruby but three other ships docked there that day! |
Evening dinner and entertainment:
Our dinner that evening was a favorite – shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, Land & Sea which is beef and lobster with twice-baked potato and spinach for the main choice (I always have just the lobster and tonight our waiter brought me two!) For dessert we selected the Chocolate Pistachio Almond. So, so good! The evening’s entertainment in the Princess Theater was Travis Turpin, an impersonator and singer. His wife also joined him in singing. He is a favorite of the audience and we were happy to have him perform again.
