Last Day of Cruise:
Even though this was a 10 day cruise, it seems like time just flies by. But reality sets in and you start thinking about how to spend your last day on board. This was our second cruise on the Ruby and this time we made more of an effort to really get acquainted with the ship. One way to do that is to take photos of all the areas you discover and put them into a review! So for much of the day we wandered around the ship forward to aft, deck to deck and photographed what we saw. The Ruby really is a very beautiful ship and just the right size to easily explore.

Activities:
Throughout the day and evening there were many activities planned to keep guests busy. One place where many of these took place was the Explorers Lounge, Deck 7 Midship. These included interesting enrichment lectures, the grand finale act auction, a trivia challenge, Hollywood hiccups game show and, of course, live music. Many guests were already thinking about their next cruise, so they were visiting the Future Cruise Sales desk, Deck 5 Midship, to book their next adventure.
One of the fun events is attending the Culinary Demonstration held in the Princess Theater. Two chefs demonstrate preparing an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert. One is very serious about his preparation while the other is playing the funny guy. They obviously enjoy bantering with each other and the audience loves it.
Disembarkation:
Information for disembarkation was provided each guest a couple of days before, but now it becomes time to start deciding if you want to put your packed suitcases out later in the evening to be taken off the ship for you or if you want to take all your suitcases with you as you exit the ship. Along with the information are some colored tags to put on your luggage and a schedule to tell you where you are to wait and what time you are to disembark. If taking your luggage with you, you don’t have to use the tags and you will be one of the first to disembark the ship. If you choose this option, you have to be physically able to deal with your luggage.

Evening dinner and entertainment:
The meals all 10 days had been very well prepared with many choices to select from. Some dishes were familiar but some were new and interesting to try, but all were tasty. For this last evening meal we chose the seafood medley and tropical fruit soup for appetizers. The main dish selections were glazed mahi mahi and bacon wrapped meatloaf. For dessert we chose caramel pecan turtle cheesecake. Melt in your mouth delicious!

The evening’s entertainment in the Princess Theater was the grand finale of The Voice of the Ocean competition. This is set up like The Voice that you may have watched on TV. At the beginning of the cruise there were try-outs for anyone who would like to participate. The contestants were eliminated until the final nine were selected. These nine performed a song of their choice and then any of the three judges could hit a button to choose that performer. The performer then got to decide which judge’s team they wanted to be on. At the end of all the performances, the audience got to vote on which one would be the “Voice of the Ocean” and receive a trophy. It was a difficult decision because each of them was very talented and each had their own style. It was a great way to end the evening entertainment on the cruise.

Day 11 (Debarkation) January 8, 2023
Disembarkation in Galveston:
When we docked in Galveston, it was still dark and hazy. We had our bags packed, ate breakfast and were ready to go to our assigned location to wait for the announcement to leave the ship. The disembarkation went smoothly and before long we were walking to the parking garage and driving home. A wonderful cruise on the Princess Ruby! This was a very special cruise for me with many memories. My husband and I had traveled many times over the years and visited some interesting and beautiful places. We had only been home eleven days after this cruise when he very suddenly passed away. I am so thankful we had this last cruise together. It is one I’ll never forget. Thanks for reading my review.
