Carnival Dream 2014 7-Day Bahamas Cruise Review
Day 7            June 21, 2014               Fun Day At Sea
Click Any Photo To Make It Larger!

Overview:   Today was the last full day and third total sea day of the cruise.  The weather remained nice throughout the day and in the evening there were a few dark clouds in the distance. Today's review is only one part.  In today's review you will find many early morning photos of the public areas onboard the ship, breakfast photos, lunch photos, VIFP Gold/Platinum/Diamond Party photos, photos taken as the ship approaches the Mississippi River, and more!

Today I woke up around 5:30am in order to have time to walk around the ship before breakfast. There were very few people out around this time, but there were some crew members cleaning the ship. I went from my stateroom to Deck 12 to start my journey of walking around the ship.   Deck 12 is where you can find the ship's WaterWorks, jogging track, and mini golf course.  My camera lenses fogged up some and I was having to defog the lens before taking pictures.  In my first few photos you will see the result of having fogged camera lenses.  Don't worry... the photo quality gets better!

After walking around Deck 12, I decided to take the elevator down to Deck 5.  Deck 5 had hardly any people also.  The first picture on the row below is of the aft pool on Deck 10, but the last two pictures were taken on Deck 5.

The Ocean Plaza on Deck 5 is one of my favorite public areas on the ship.  The Carnival Dream was the first ship that I have cruised on with the Ocean Plaza design concept.  This area was commonly used for activities, trivia, and games.

After walking around Deck 5 I went down one deck to Deck 4.  One of my first stops was the Page Turner Library. It was empty so it was the perfect time to get some pictures of it.  The last two pictures on the row below are of the Page Turner Library.

I really enjoyed the Dream's atrium.  The layout of the atrium was very similar to Carnival's Spirit Class ships (Spirit, Pride, Legend, & Miracle), with a few minor differences.   On the starboard side of the atrium was Guest Services and the port side of the atrium was the Shore Excursions Desk.

Breakfast in The Gathering:   Once again, we ate breakfast in the lido buffet.  The food was almost the same everyday, but it was very good. One of my favorite things to eat at breakfast is an omelet.  Today the continental breakfast buffet lines opened at 6:30am and the hot breakfast buffet lines opened at 7:30am.  Sea Day Brunch was also being served in the Scarlet Dining room from 8:30am - 1:00pm. I later learned from the dinner wait staff that over 1,000 people attended the Sea Day Brunch.

After breakfast, it was time to walk off breakfast by walking around the Lanai.  Many other people had the same idea of using the Lanai as a jogging track. Two and a half times around the Lanai was equal to a mile compared to seven laps around the jogging track.

The WaterWorks -  The WaterWorks opened at 9:00am.  I decided to ride the slides a few times to see what they were like.  There were very few people in line for some slides and for others there was no wait.  I tried out the racing slides first and enjoyed the ride.  The racing slides were my favorite from the Carnival Ecstasy's WaterWorks after it received its Evolutions of Fun upgrades in 2009.  The Dream's Twister waterslide was not my favorite.  I remember hating it on the Carnival Ecstasy and I hated it on the Carnival Dream too.  The slide had too many turns and twists.  I hurt my back on the slide.   The Drainpipe waterslide was very neat and a lot of fun.  I had never done a waterslide like this before, so it was a new experience.
After doing the WaterWorks for about 20 minutes I went back to my room to get dressed.  I came back to the WaterWorks area to get some pictures.  I climbed up to the stairs to the entrance for the Drainpipe and Twister waterslides to get some pictures from the highest point on the ship.

Digital Scavenger Hunt -  At 10:30am there was supposed to be a Digital Scavenger Hunt that would meet in the Ocean Plaza. The entertainment staff member arrived late and had to inform everyone that the printer in the office was broken and he would have to change the digital scavenger hunt to a regular scavenger hunt.  This new scavenger hunt was a sheet of paper that asked questions about the Carnival Dream and everyone was supposed to go around the ship looking for the answers.  Instead of running around the ship my team sat down and filled in the answers because we knew them by memory.  We were first back and got a ship on a stick (trophy) for being first.

Ship Life Q&A:   At 11:15am in the Ocean Plaza was an activity called Ship Life Q&A.  This was where guests could ask cruise director Troy a question about the ship or the ship's operations.  This was interesting to listen to and Troy did a great job explaining how things onboard work. Everyone was told that salary questions and security questions were off limits. However, one man still asked how much the crew get paid and one person asked if there was a brig onboard.

Last Lunch in The Gathering:   Today we ate lunch in The Gathering.   Most of the buffet lines opened at 12:00pm, except for the Pizzeria and Deli.  Today was the Chocolate Extravaganza, which is a buffet line that only contains chocolate desserts. Here are some pictures of lunch and the Chocolate Extravaganza:

VIFP Gold/Platinum/Diamond Party:   Today was the party for guests that are Gold, Platinum, or Diamond in the VIFP Club.  A person's level in the VIFP club is determined by the number of days that he or she has sailed with Carnival.  At the party free fruit punch (non-alcoholic) and free FunShip Specials (alcoholic) were served.  Free food samples were passed around by the crew members.  The food was ok, except for the salmon that I bit into.  I didn't realize it was salmon and within seconds I had the thing spit out.  The cruise director spoke, the captain spoke, and a slideshow of all of the Carnival ships got played.  Everyone was told to clap for the ships that they have cruised on.

Dinner in the Crimson Dining Room:   Today was the last dinner of the cruise.  The line for dinner was long and the dining room didn't open until 5:45pm. We had the same wait staff and had great food.   Before the end of dinner, the waiters and waitresses sang the signature Carnival farewell song titled "Leaving On a FunShip".

I was able to get a great view of the sunset from the front of the ship on the Lanai.  As we approached the Mississippi River, we passed by many oil rigs and ships.

Entering the Mississippi River:   Around 8:30pm we entered the Mississippi River.  I do not have any pictures to share because the photos did not turn out very well.  The bottom of the Mississippi River has many red lights and buoys.   It was neat to see this from the front of the ship and next time I sail from New Orleans I will be watching for the ship to enter the river.

After going back to the room to start the dreaded packing process, I had some time to walk around the ship at night.  Here are some pictures:
