Arrival in Paris: We flew overnight to Paris, France, arriving at Charles DeGaule Airport around 8:30am. We were completely surprised at the extremely long lines for immigration especially for those with passports other than European.  It took well over an hour to go through the line, but once through we had no trouble getting our luggage and proceeding to the Viking representatives’ station.  There we were quickly checked in and taken to our transfer vehicle for a 30-45 min. ride to Le Pecq (a small suburb of Western Paris) where the Kadlin was docked on the Seine River.
Check In: When we arrived, we were immediately checked in at the Reception Desk by showing our passports although we had to wait to be shown to our room since it was still being prepared. However, we were able to enjoy the Embarkation Buffet, a choice of salads, sandwiches and delicious soup that was served in the Restaurant.
Shuttle Bus to Paris: For those who wanted to venture into Paris for the afternoon, free shuttle bus service was provided at 12:30pm with a drop off at the Petit Palais by the Champs Elysees and a pickup at the same place at 4:30pm to return to the ship in Le Pecq.

Our Stateroom: After our room was ready, we were escorted to our room which was on the middle deck (only 3 decks) just a short walk down the hall from the Reception Desk and Restaurant. We were given information about the room including the safe, phone, where to put luggage, the listening devices, etc.  After unpacking, we were able to take a short nap which was needed after a long flight.

Welcome Walk:  At 2:30pm we went with others for a short coach ride to Saint Germaine-in-Laye which was at the top of a hill overlooking the Seine River and the small town of Le Pecq for a “Welcome Walk”. Our guide gave us a leisurely tour and briefed us on the historical significance of the town.  Paris could be seen in the distance.

Other Afternoon Activities:  A cheese and wine tasting as well as cocktail hour for drinks and live music were held in the Lounge.

Safety Drill and Welcome Briefing with Daily Port Talk:  The mandatory safety drill was held at 5:45pm and then at 6:15 the management team met in the Lounge with all the cruisers to give us information about the ship and what we could look forward to during our time onboard as well as activities for the next day.

Dinner: At 7:00pm everyone was served dinner in the Restaurant. There was no assigned seating, but groups traveling together often sat together while those traveling as a single or couple would sit with different people each night in order to get to know more of their fellow travelers.

Evening Entertainment:  At 9:30pm a very talented pianist entertained with famous French music that had been popular through the years.
