Early Morning Walk Around The Ship:
One of my cruise traditions is to take an early morning walk around the ship on sea days. I use this time to take pictures of the ship's public areas because very few people are out and walking around before breakfast is great way to burn a few extra calories. I slept well on the first night on the Carnival Vista, but woke up with a headache so I was dragging a little. My alarm went off at 5:45am and I got up slowly. However, by 6:15am I was outside of my stateroom and ready to begin the morning walk.
I started my morning walk in the Carnival Vista's atrium lobby on Deck 3. This was one of the areas I did not get pictures of on Day #1 because it was crowded. The Carnival Vista's atrium is only third decks (Decks 3, 4, and 5). The Vista Class is Carnival's first class of ships to not have large atrium with a skylight at the top. Although the atrium did not have a skylight and was not very tall, it still felt big. At the middle of the atrium is an LED twister shaped screen that changes colors and designs. The design or color pattern shown on the LED screen was different almost every time I was in the atrium. The Carnival Vista's atrium had many seats around the bar and along the edges of the atrium.

The Guest Services and Shore Excursions decks can be found on Deck 3 on the sides of the atrium. The Guest Services desk is on one side of the Carnival Vista's atrium while the Shore Excursions desk is on the opposite side of the atrium. At this time of the morning, the Shore Excursions Desk was closed. Shore Excursions can be booked through stateroom TV's, on the Carnival Hub App, and at Guest Services when the Shore Excursions Desk is closed.
After looking around Deck 3's atrium lobby area I decided to walk up to Deck 4. I took another look at the atrium and then headed into the Liquid Lounge. The Carnival Vista's Liquid Lounge is located on Decks 4 and 5. Unfortunately the lights were dim in the Liquid Lounge so my pictures do not reflect the true colors of the lounge. Here are some pictures from my time in the Deck 4 level of the atrium and the lower level of the Liquid Lounge:
Once I was done on Deck 4, I walked up to Deck 5. I took a quick look inside the Liquid Lounge from Deck 5 and then began to head towards the back of Deck 5.
One of my favorite areas on Carnival's Dream and Vista class ships is the Ocean Plaza. Later in the day, the Ocean Plaza's bar would have a water dispenser that was filled with ice cold water infused with lemon or oranges. The water was very good, cold, and tasty! Here are some pictures of the Carnival Vista's Ocean Plaza area:
After walking through the Ocean Plaza I came to the back of Deck 5. I decided to take a quick look inside the Havana Bar. The bar was not yet open for the day because it was early. However, the back doors to the Havana Pool area were already closed to regular guests and the wristband scanners were turned on. Although I did not witness any guests without a wristband make it into the Havana Pool area, I did hear crew members will ask guests without a wristband to leave if they somehow make it through the locked doors. Here are some pictures of the Havana Bar:
Note: The interior of the Havana Bar does not require any type of wristband access. Only the outside Havana Pool area requires a wristband during the daytime prior to 6:00pm.
After walking around Deck 5 I went outside. I went up to Deck 12 first to catch the sunrise. Here are some pictures I took around Deck 12:

My morning walk was making me hungry and it was almost time for breakfast so I walked down to the Lido Deck (10). The Lido Marketplace wasn't serving breakfast yet, but would be soon. Breakfast was scheduled to begin at 7:00am. Here are some pictures of the Lido Marketplace:
First Breakfast On The Carnival Vista:
The Carnival Vista offers cruisers multiple breakfast options to choose from. For cruisers that wanted to eat at the Lido Marketplace , breakfast was scheduled to begin at 7:00am and end at 12:00am. The Blue Iguana Cantina did not open for breakfast until 7:30am, but it closed at 10:30am. For cruisers that did not want to eat breakfast in Lido buffet, Sea Day Brunch was available in the Horizons Dining Room (aft main dining room) from 8:30am - 1:00pm. Another dining option was a Continental Breakfast buffet line at the Ocean Plaza that was open from 8:00am until 10:00am.
My first stop for breakfast was the omelet station. I visited the omelet station that is located at the deli. Another omelet station was available near the front of the buffet where the gelato station is setup at lunch-time. The crew working this station made great omelets and were friendly!
I will have a full set of breakfast buffet pictures in Day 3's review! Here are some breakfast food pictures from this day of the cruise:

One area I passed by while walking around on Deck 5 was the Library Bar. The Library Bar is a room that has several books and games. However, the library is also considered a bar because there is a self-service wine dispensing machine located in the room. I think there were 7 or 8 different flavors of wine to choose from. The library had plenty of places to sit and enough tables for space for those wanting to read or play games. The Carnival Vista's Library Bar can be accessed from either the interior of the ship's promenade walkway or through a door from the Lanai. Here are a few pictures of the Library Bar:
I saw the ship's Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse and decided to have a quick look inside. The steakhouse serves dinner for a fee. Tables are available inside the steakhouse or on an outside patio area on the Lanai. Although I never ate in the steakhouse, I saw a few people eating at one of the outside tables on each night of the cruise. The next three pictures are of inside the steakhouse:
During my walk I stopped in the Red Frog Pub & Brewery because it was empty. This was the largest Red Frog Pub I had seen on any Carnival ship. The brewery was located close to the front of the Red Frog Pub and had glass windows so cruisers could see inside. I saw signage that brewery tours and tastings were offering at select times for a fee. There were some game tables located near the back of the Red Frog Pub. I will show pictures of these tables later in the review. Here are some of my Red Frog Pub pictures:
Quick Visit To The Sea Day Brunch:
I had a family member that wanted a yogurt parfait from the Sea Day Brunch so I went with her to get the parfait. Sea Day Brunch was being held in the Horizons Dining Room on the Deck 3 level from 8:30am - 1:00pm. The Sea Day Brunch menu contained a combination of breakfast and regular foods. We told the hostess we wanted only a yogurt parfait and the Italian Wedding cookies to go. She told us to sit near the entrance and a waiter came by to take our order. The Italian Wedding cookies were good, but not something I would eat again. Here are pictures of the food:

Morning Trivia & Morning Show:
On sea days I enjoy watching the cruise director's morning show. I got to the Liquid Lounge early and realized trivia was taking place at 9:45am. The trivia was called "Morning Trivia" and it consisted of general knowledge questions. Although I came close to winning, someone beat me by 1 point. Right after trivia ended the morning show began. At 10:00am was our cruise director's morning show in the Liquid Lounge This show is broadcasted on one of the ship's TV stations and is intended to give an overview of the day. The show gave information about the sea day's highlights, shore excursions, onboard shopping, and port of call shopping. Our cruise director, Matt, and one of the Fun Squad, Shay, hosted the show. It was a great show!
Walk Around The Lanai:
After the morning show and morning trivia, I took another walk around the ship. The Carnival Vista's Lanai was empty compared to other areas of the ship. I do not think very many people knew about this outside area of Deck 5. Here are some pictures:

Attempt To Ride The SkyRide:
The Carnival Vista's SkyRide was scheduled to open at 9am. However, around 11am I went up to the SkyRide and found it was closed. There was no note or sign indicating why the ride was closed. My guess is the wind was too high for the ride to open. Thankfully the SkyRide was open on Day 3 because I really wanted to ride it. The other areas of SportsSquare were open and filled with people. At the back of SportsSquare, the basketball court had a few people and did not seem as popular as the other SportsSquare attractions.

After walking around the Lanai a few times I went up to Deck 11 to see some food service areas that I had not yet visited.
JiJi Asian Kitchen:
JiJi Asian Kitchen serves a variety of Asian themed dishes at dinnertime for an extra fee. However, at lunch this area is used for the Mongolian Wok (which is complimentary). At lunch in order to use the Mongolian Wok cruisers get a small sheet of paper and check items that they want put into their bowl. During the time the food is being cooked, cruisers can sit at a table while they wait. This Mongolian Wok process does away with people having to stand in long lines like some of the other Carnival ships. Here are a few pictures of JiJi Asian Kitchen:

Next to JiJi Asian Kitchen is another dining venue called Cucina Del Capitano. Cucina Del Capitano serves a variety of italian dishes in the evening for an extra charge. However, at lunch Cucina Del Capitano has a pasta bar that is complimentary. Cruisers wanting to try the pasta bar for lunch will come into Cucina Del Capitano and fill out a paper that indicates what items they want in a bowl.

Second Lunch on The Carnival Vista:
My first stop for today's lunch was the Blue Iguana Cantina. The Blue Iguana Cantina serves burritos and tacos. Outside of the Blue Iguana Cantina is a toppings/salsa bar that has a variety of taco toppings as well as salsas. Throughout several cruises I have tried several different salsas and have enjoyed almost all of them! I had a chicken taco with a side of watermelon from the taco line at the Blue Iguana Cantina. The taco line was very short and the burrito line was very long. It took longer to serve burritos because the burritos had more toppings choices.

After eating my taco I decided to get in line for the deli. On Carnival's old deli menu there was a pastrami on rye sandwich that I greatly enjoyed. On the new deli menu there was a sandwich called "Pastrami & Tomato". I decided to try this sandwich because I figured it would be similar to my old favorite. I was wrong and this was the worst food I ate during the entire cruise. The pastrami meat tasted good, but I strongly disliked the tomatoes & tomato sauce in the sandwich.
All Lunch Dining Options:
The daily activity newsletter, the Fun-Times, listed the variety of places cruisers could eat on the Carnival Vista. Due to the variety of eating places across the ship the Lido Marketplace never felt overly crowded. Here are all of the choices cruisers had for lunch on this day of the cruise:
After eating my food I got in line for some dessert. Here are today's dessert cakes that were served in the Lido Marketplace buffet:
The daily activity newsletter, the Fun-Times, listed the variety of places cruisers could eat on the Carnival Vista. Due to the variety of eating places across the ship the Lido Marketplace never felt overly crowded. Here are all of the choices cruisers had for lunch on this day of the cruise:
- Fresh Creations - This dining option is located on the Serenity Adults Only Retreat and serves salads. The Fun-Times showed this dining option only being available to guests 21 years and older because the Serenity Adults Only Retreat is an age restricted area. The Serenity Adults Only Retreat is located on Deck 15 at the front of the ship. This option was available from 11am until 3:00pm.
- Seafood Shack - The Seafood Shack is located at the back of the Lido Marketplace by the Tides aft pool. This venue costs extra and was open from 11:00am to 5:00pm for lunch. Dinner was also served at this venue from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
- Blue Iguana Cantina 12:00pm - 2:30pm
- Bonsai Sushi - This dining option is located on Deck 5 and costs extra. Bonsai Sushi serves a variety of different sushi related dishes. For lunch, this venue was open from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse (BBQ) - This dining venue is located on the Lanai on Deck 5 and is complimentary. BBQ is served here. The Carnival Vista had this dining venue open from 12:00pm - 2:30pm.
- Light Lunch - The Ocean Plaza was serving some lunch food items from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Mongolian Wok - This was located in JiJi Asian Kitchen on Deck 11 (right above the Lido Marketplace buffet). The open time was from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Pasta Bar - This was located in Cucina Del Capitano on Deck 11 (right above the Lido Marketplace buffet). The open time was from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.
- Guy's Burger Joint - 12:00pm - 6:00pm
- The deli was open for lunch, but was also available for dinner (it closed at 11pm).
After eating my food I got in line for some dessert. Here are today's dessert cakes that were served in the Lido Marketplace buffet:
I had some of the Green Tea checkers cake and it was very good! However, I heard the Gelato Station was good so I got in line to try a little bit of gelato. Each day two different flavors were served. Today's flavors were raspberry and hazlenut. A toppings station was available by the gelato for guests to put toppings on their gelato.
Afternoon On The First Sea Day:
After lunch I went back to my room to find strawberries and chocolate had been delivered by room service. This was a complimentary plate because I was platinum. The chocolate strawberries were good! One of my plans for the afternoon was to ride the ship's Skyride, but it was not open. This was a disappointment because I was looking forward to riding the SkyRide. The reason for today's closure was due to high wind that occurred in the morning. I went to the ship's gym for about 45 minutes in the afternoon to use the treadmills. The gym was not crowded. One thing I did not like about the Carnival Vista's gym was the lack of air conditioning. It felt like there was no air movement in this part of the ship. After using the gym I got ready for formal night.

Formal Night Dinner:
Tonight was our cruise's first of two formal nights. This meant cruisers were expected to dress nicer for the dining room. I saw people get turned away for trying to wear shorts.
Once again we checked in for dinner on Deck 5 at the Your-Time Dining check in station. We were given a different table from the night before despite requesting the same table. The waitstaff we had on this night of the cruise were the best we have ever had on any cruises. Throughout the rest of the cruise we made sure to ask for these waitstaff again because they were friendly and did everything possible to make dinner an enjoyable experience. Since this was formal night and the dining experience was "American Feast" our tables had tablecloths. This was one of two nights of the cruise our dining room tables had tablecloths. Lobster was served complimentary on this night of the cruise and I made sure to have it. For my appetizers I had shrimp cocktail and romaine caesar salad. For dessert I had another banana split from the kid's menu. All of the food was very tasty!
Below you will find pictures of the menus. Click the menu pictures to make it larger!

TIP: You can order a banana split any night of the cruise because it is on the kid's menu. You do not have to be a kid to order from the kid's menu. The banana split I ordered from the kid's menu was tasty and a good size. The kid's menu has other dessert options such as cookies and jello too.
Playlist Productions Show "Flick":
Flick was a show that incorporated concepts and songs from various movies. The show took place in the Liquid Lounge and was done by the Carnival Vista's Playlist Productions dancers. On the Carnival Vista the Liquid Lounge has movable chairs on the bottom level of the theater and the chairs were arranged to allow for dancing to occur both on and off the stage. The Playlist Productions dancers did a great job and the show was enjoyable! The show was done twice. The first show was at 7:30pm and the second show was at 9:30pm. However, doors for the first show opened at 7:00pm and 9:00pm for the second show. I am not a big fan of having a doors open time for the shows, but this is the way Carnvial does the Playlist Productions shows. |
After the show I went to the Lido Marketplace for some water and then took a short walk around the upper decks of the ship. However, I was tired and my camera did not take very good night pictures. When I got back to my stateroom I saw our stateroom steward had come by to do the nightly turndown. She never left the daily Fun-Times in the stateroom, but late in the evening the next day's Fun-Times was placed in the mailbox. I am not sure if it was just something she did or if this is a new thing for all Carnival ships.
The first sea day passed by quickly and was a lot of fun! We had another sea day coming up before arriving in Montego Bay so I needed to get a good night's sleep. |

The Carnival Vista was the first ship in Carnival's fleet to get a SkyRide. The Skyride is a suspended bike that wraps around the aft part of the ship. It is like a bicycle and moves based on the rider peddling. |
