Last day of cruise: The old saying is that “time seems to fly when you are having fun”. It was certainly true of this week of cruising. The previous six days had just flown by and there was only this last day to have fun on this beautiful ship. One of the fun things that we experienced was meeting so many nice people from all parts of our country and even other countries, and we really enjoyed the friendliness of the crew. We had fun visiting different ports, seeing new sights and learning about new cultures. As we were sitting by the window having breakfast, we noticed off in the distance three other ships moving in the same direction that we were going, maybe even heading back to the same port that we were. A new experience for us, another new sight!
Scheduled Events: So many events going on through the day, but a highlight for me was the Culinary Demonstration in the Princess Theater led by the Executive Chef and the Maitre D’hôtel. These demos have been on other Princess cruises and have always been informative as well as humorous. This one proved to be as well. They demonstrated the preparing of a favorite entrée as well as an appetizer and dessert. They both had a sense of humor which made the event very enjoyable. After the demo, the group in attendance was taken on a tour through one of the galleys. It always amazes me to see how immaculate the galley is and how small the space is in which so many are preparing hundreds of dishes at each meal. At the end of the tour, anyone in the group who wanted to visit with the chef and maitre d’hôtel could take a few minutes to talk with them and take a photo.
Another highlight was enjoying the music and comedy of Steve Moris in the Princess Theater. He had performed one evening earlier in the week and we were anxious to hear him again. He put on another good show and it was loved by the audience.
We also had a chance to catch an Enrichment lecture in Princess Live. The subject was “Piracy in the Caribbean” and since we had been to islands where pirates had been years ago, it was interesting to find out the real facts about who these pirates were and what all they had done.

Other Events: Of course there were the movies, music and games in different areas of the ship, but there was also an opportunity for shopping. This was the last day to purchase something to take home with you or for someone else. At the Future Cruise Center people were lined up waiting to book their next cruise for a reduced deposit and on board credits.
Dinner and Entertainment: We enjoyed all our meals on the cruise but were especially pleased with the evening meals. The choices were always varied and each that we selected had been nicely prepared and delicious. This final night was a little sad because we had to say goodbye to our two fantastic waiters. They had been so professional in their serving but also personable and friendly. One was from Serbia and the other from the Ukraine. Both were returning home for a few months before their next cruise assignment on another ship.
After the meal we headed to the Princess Theater for the final entertainment. It was “Voice of the Ocean” and was patterned after “The Voice” on TV. Contestants had tried out earlier in the week and the final nine performed live on the stage. There were three judges who picked a finalist for their team and then the audience voted on the device that was given to us as we entered the theater. Each of the finalists was so talented making it a difficult choice. The winner was given a small trophy.

Disembarkation: Earlier we had been given a disembarkation information sheet with everything we needed to know in order to have a smooth exit from the ship. All those who wanted to “walk off” the ship could take their luggage with them the next morning, but those who wanted to have their luggage taken off the ship for them were given a time to meet in an assigned lounge and colored tags to put on their luggage. The luggage needed to be in the hall outside your room before 11:00pm to be collected and stored until the next morning when it would be taken off the ship to be picked up after you disembarked and went through customs. Anything you needed for the night or for the next morning would be packed in your carryon bag.
Arrival in Ft. Lauderdale: Since the ship was to arrive very early in the morning, breakfast time started at 5:00am in the Horizon Court/Bistro to accommodate those who were disembarking first. We disembarked with the first group that had a Princess transfer to the airport with a flight before 11:45am. It was perhaps the best organized and smoothest disembarkation we had ever had. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time and were soon on our way back home. It was a wonderful cruise!
