Royal Caribbean Galveston Announcement: Icon of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas

11/23/2025

PictureGalveston Cruise Terminal For Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean recently announced an expansion of its Galveston cruise fleet for the late summer 2027 through spring 2028 cruise season. This cruise season is bringing the Icon of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, and Liberty of the Seas to Galveston. The combination of ships & guest capacities represents an increase for the Port of Galveston and Texas cruise market as a whole. This post will take a look at the ship announcements:

Icon of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas is scheduled to begin cruising from Galveston in August 2027. While sailing from Galveston the ship will primarily sail 6 to 8 night cruises to destinations such as Perfect Day Coco Cay, Roatan, and Cozumel. The exact itinerary will vary by sailing and length.
The ship is 1,196 feet long and 219 feet wide. Icon of the Seas began cruising in 2024 and has a guest capacity at double occupancy of 5,610 guests. This deployment will be the Icon of the Seas' first time to cruise from Galveston as a homeport.
Liberty of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas is scheduled to cruise 4 through 8 night cruises from Galveston during the 2027 through 2028 season. The Liberty of the Seas is scheduled to undergo a dry-dock, or amplification as Royal Caribbean calls it, during 2026. This means the ship will have some refreshed features and amenities when it sails from Galveston during this season of new itineraries.
Symphony of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas is scheduled to cruise 4 through 8 night cruises during the 2027 through 2028 season. The ship is scheduled to first arrive in April 2027 and during summer 2027 will mostly sail 7 night cruises. When Icon of the Seas joins the Galveston line-up, the ship will start offering shorter cruises, such as 4 and 5 night cruises.
The Symphony of the Seas is an Oasis class ship (same class as the Harmony of the Seas that is currently sailing from Galveston). The ship entered service in 2018, has a double occupancy guest capacity of 5,518 guests, and is 1,188 feet in length.
