Carnival Cruise ships have recently been in the news because of viral videos showing some guests fighting. Just like on land, fights can and sometimes do break out on a Carnival Cruise ship. Although most guests sailing on Carnival Cruise ships are well behaved, sometimes fights happen. In this post I will take a look at some common actions that happen when guests fight onboard:
1. Security Responds To The Fight
Carnival Cruise ships have a security team onboard. Typically when a fight breaks out the security team is called to the location of the fight. From videos I have watched of previous fights Carnival's security team will work to separate guests involved in the fighting quickly.

2. Fighting Guests Are Confined To Their Cabin Or To The Brig
Guests who break Carnival's code of conduct could be confined to their stateroom/cabin onboard or sent to the brig. Sometimes if you pay attention you may see a security officer or crew member sitting outside someone's stateroom door. I've spoken to a couple of security guards over the years and they will mention that a guest has been confined to the room and their job is to make sure the person does not escape. Before Covid I did the Behind the Fun Tour and one of the questions that came up is what happens to guests that fight. The security officer on our tour explained that guests can be sent to their stateroom or if the situation is very severe they could be sent to the brig.

3. Guests Involved May Be Removed From The Ship Even In A Foreign Port
Carnival sends communication before the cruise begins and guests are required to acknowledge the code of conduct as part of the online check-in process. Part of this mentions that guests who have disruptive behavior may be disembarked at their own expense. This means you could be kicked off the ship in a port of call at your own expense home for fighting. Carnival's full statement in the pre-cruise email reads "Consistent with our commitment to safety, disruptive behavior is not tolerated and any guest whose conduct affects the comfort, enjoyment, safety or well-being of other guests or crew will be disembarked at their own expense and banned from sailing on Carnival in the future."

4. Fighting Guests May Be Banned & Fined
Carnival reserves the right to ban guests and often times will ban guests who engage in fighting behavior onboard. These guests are no longer able to book another cruise with Carnival and any attempts in the future could result in lost deposits or money paid for the vacation. Guests who fight could also be issued a $500 fine.

5. Law Enforcement Action
Sometimes fights onboard Carnival ships result in law enforcement action. US agencies like the FBI may become involved depending on the situation and guests that fight could face criminal prosecution.

The vast majority of guests on Carnival are there to have fun and are respectful to one another. However, sometimes fights do happen between guests and Carnival has a plan in place to respond.
