Some Carnival Cruise ship guests have recently complained about the AC temperatures onboard and the air flow in public spaces of the ships. In this post I will take a look at Carnival's response to the recent trend in air conditioning and air flow complaints and share their tips & reminders when it comes to onboard AC.
Balcony Staterooms:
Carnival's brand ambassador, John Heald, recently shared that balcony stateroom doors being left ajar will turn off the air conditioning to the room. The airflow into your cabin will be reduced due to the door being opened. If you want to make sure your AC in your balcony stateroom is maximized make sure your balcony door is completely closed.
Another way to keep your room cool is to close the curtains when you are not in the room or using the balcony. There may be times of the day where the sun shines directly into your room so you can block some of the bright sunlight by closing the curtain and this will hopefully keep your room a little bit cooler.
Port Day Operations:
The operations of the ship on port of call days can have an impact on the onboard temperatures. According to John Heald, some parts of the ship may feel warmer due to open gangway doors. Keep in mind on homeport days Carnival ships generally have doors open for the passenger gangway and then have areas open for crew gangways, supplies to be loaded, and an area open for luggage operations.
Ocean View Staterooms:
Similar to balcony staterooms make sure you keep your curtains closed when you are not in the room or wanting to look out the window. There may be times of the day where the sun shines directly into your room so you can block some of the bright sunlight by closing the curtain and this will hopefully keep your room a little bit cooler.

Retractable Roofs:
Some Carnival Cruise ships have retractable roofs over one of the pools onboard that can be opened or closed. According to John Heald, Carnival will try to roof open when it is warm and closed when the weather is rainy. However, the ship cannot open or close the roof while at sea day due to potential damage to the tracks. This unfortunately means the roof cannot be adjusted on sea days which can have an impact on air flow for a portion of the outside decks.

Having issues onboard with your stateroom AC?
You can tell your stateroom attendant onboard if you have an issue or concern about the AC temperature or airflow in your stateroom. You can also call Guest Services by dialing 7777 using an onboard phone or by visiting the Guest Services desk.
Can you bring a fan onboard with you to have air flow in your stateroom?
Carnival does allow fans but there are strict requirements. The fans must be personal fans and according to Carnival's prohibited items list the fans cannot exceed 12'' in diameter.
