Carnival Cruise and Port of Galveston Celebrate 25 Years of Cruising

10/19/2025

Port of Galveston
Carnival Cruise Line and the Port of Galveston recently celebrated a 25 year milestone of Carnival sailing cruises from Galveston. In 2000, Carnival Cruise deployed the M/S Celebration, a Holiday class vessel, to begin sailing from Galveston. Carnival was the first cruise line to begin year-round cruises from Galveston as previously Galveston was only used for seasonal sailings. Within a couple of years, Carnival homeported another year-round ship from Galveston, the M/S Jubilee, and since then the port has continued to grow in capacity with Carnival ships and other cruise lines. Carnival currently has 4 ships homeporting from Galveston: Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Dream, and Carnival Breeze on a year-round basis and Carnival Legend sailing seasonally for the fall 2025 through spring 2026.

According to the Port of Galveston, the week of September 24-30, 2000 was proclaimed by Texas Governor, George W. Bush, as Texas Cruise Week. The M/S Celebration's first sailing departed Galveston on September 30, 2000. The current cruise terminal, now known as Cruise Terminal 25, was renovated to prepare for the Celebration's arrival.

During the 25 years of sailing from Galveston, Carnival has had over 10 million guests sail on Galveston cruises. Guests have been able to enjoy a variety of different ships that offered many different features & amenities over the last 25 years.
